Informal Hearings
McHenry County Law Firm Helping Clients with Informal Hearings
To qualify for license reinstatement, you may need to attend an administrative hearing through the Illinois Secretary of State. Depending on the reason your license was suspended or revoked, you’ll either need to request a formal hearing or go to an informal hearing.
Informal hearings are for traffic offenses without a fatality, a single DUI, fraudulent statements or minor moving violations. You do not need to schedule an appointment in advance. Informal hearings are conducted on a “first come, first served” basis at Secretary of State Driver Services facilities throughout the state of Illinois.
An informal hearing involves undergoing an interview with the informal hearing officer. Being prepared for this line of questioning is a critical step in the reinstatement process. The attorneys at Botto Gilbert Lancaster, PC, will have you 100% prepared for these questions. We will attend the hearing alongside you and strongly advocate on your behalf to help you regain your driving privileges.
If your full driving privileges can’t be restored, our attorneys may be able to help you obtain a restricted driver permit (RDP) which will allow you to drive to specified locations like work, school and medical appointments until your case is resolved.
Once the interview has been completed and all required documentation has been submitted, the informal hearing officer submits a recommendation to the Secretary of State’s office. Decisions are received by mail approximately 10-12 weeks after the hearing.
Our attorneys provide high-quality legal representation throughout the complicated Illinois license reinstatement process. Whether you have never had a hearing or have been previously denied, contact the driver’s license attorneys at Botto Gilbert Lancaster, PC, for a free initial consultation.
